What is Sexual Harassment?

It is unlawful to harass a person (an applicant or employee) because of that person's sex. Harassment can include sexual harassment or unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical harassment of a sexual nature.

Harassment does not have to be of a sexual nature, however, and can include offensive remarks about a person's sex. For example, it is illegal to harass a woman by making offensive comments about women in general.

Both victim and the harasser can be either a woman or a man, and the victim and harasser can be the same sex.
Although the law doesn't prohibit simple teasing, offhand comments, or isolated incidents that are not very serious, harassment is illegal when it is so frequent or severe that it creates a hostile or offensive work environment or when it results in an adverse employment decision (such as the victim being fired or demoted).

The harasser can be the victim's supervisor, a supervisor in another area, a co-worker, or someone who is not an employee of the employer, such as a client or customer.

What is sexual harassment in the workplace?

It is behavior that is bothersome, irritating, demeaning, and annoying. Sexual harassment is harassment of a sexual nature. But it can be more!  It is against the law! It can lead to substantial and embarrassing court fines and significant payments to an injured party. It can mean reduced productivity. It can be measured in lower stock value. It can be a hostile work environment. It is wrong.

A few questions you may want to ask yourself are:

What is my companies sexual harassment policy? What is sexual harassment law? What are some sexual harassment statistics? What is my definition of sexual harassment? What is sexual harassment in the work place? How much money would my company be willing to pay to settle a sexual harassment law suit? How do I prevent sexual harassment from happening?

Knowing how to prevent occurrences of sexual harassment and discriminatory behavior is critical in today's world.

In our Sexual Harassment Awareness training seminars your employees will learn and apply the important skills of handling sexual harassment issues and complaints. This hands on seminar thoroughly addresses the elements of how to prevent unacceptable behavior. The seminar includes a detailed overview of what sexual harassment is, explains legal definitions, discusses sexual harassment prevention, and shows how to handle sexual harassment complaints and maintain a positive work environment.

Participants will learn to take action and diffuse potential sexual harassment issues before they occur. Our sexual harassment awareness seminars are highly participatory and focus directly on improving skills to handle any sexual harassment issue or complaint with greater confidence.

North Dakota: Bismarck, Fargo-Moorehead, Grand Forks

Bismarck

Bismarck is often referred to as Bismarck-Mandan, as the city of Mandan is just 6 mi (10 km) across the Missouri River from Bismarck. As the capital city of North Dakota, Bismarck is rich with educational attractions, historic sites and cultural events. Architecture enthusiasts enjoy embarking on a guided tour of the State Capitol, a 19-story Art Deco building built in the 1930s.

Fargo-Moorehead

Fargo-Moorhead ranks third (among small market MSAs) in the "Best U.S. Cities for Relocating a Families" study conducted by the Worldwide Employee Relocation Council (ERC) and Primary Relocation, a Tennessee-based relocation firm. The study includes standard livability benchmarks like tax burdens, cost of living and crime rates and factors that are vital to new residents, such as how long it takes to qualify for in-state tuition. Grand Forks

The history of the City of Grand Forks is consistent with other cities in the region. After the Native Americans, the first visitors and settlers were trappers and traders, who utilized "les Grandes Fourches" to congregate and to set up a trading post. According to Jerome Tweton*, the "Frenchmen who earlier had been in the Sieur de la Verendrye expedition of 1734 selected Les Grandes Fourches as a rendezvous point for trappers." Many more gathered as the years went by; a significant number stayed.
